Getting started

OpenThrone is a browser-based, text strategy MMORPG inspired by DarkThrone. You manage a kingdom, invest in an army and economy, and interact with other commanders. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with the original DarkThrone.

The four races are Elf, Human, Goblin, and Undead. Each has different bonuses, so compare their descriptions in How to Play before choosing. No race automatically wins a matchup: army composition and equipment also matter.

Start with your kingdom overview and check your gold, citizens, and army. Read the training cost before assigning citizens to a role, then compare equipment and structure upgrades. Keep enough gold for the next action you want to take; buying one upgrade can delay another.

Kingdom decisions

Training assigns citizens to army or economic roles. Workers contribute to your economy, attack soldiers support raids, defense soldiers guard your kingdom, and spies gather intelligence. Equipment is a separate investment through the Armory. Review quantities and total costs before submitting either purchase.

Bank deposits have limits. A single deposit is limited to 80% of the gold you currently have on hand, and your account also has a limit on the number of deposits. The Bank shows deposit information and transaction history. Check those before planning a sequence of purchases or deposits.

Friends can send each other gold once both have unlocked the Coal Mine. Both players must be at least level 5 and have accounts at least 7 days old, and you cannot send gold to a player you have fought in the last 24 hours. Every transfer pays a fee that is destroyed.

Review the target, your offensive strength, and the attack turns you plan to commit. Spy information can help you assess a target, but combat carries a risk of losses. After the battle, inspect the report and War History to understand the result before committing more resources.

Stamina is how fresh your army is for attacking. Each army holds up to 100. Only attacks spend it: 2 per attack plus 0.5 for each turn you commit, so a 10-turn attack costs 7. Offensive upgrades cut that by up to half. Spying is free. It refills 5 every 10 minutes, so an empty army is fully rested in 3h 20m. Attacks always go through, but below 50 stamina your army fights weaker, down to 80% offense at zero.

Your alliance is kept but reserved. Its name, roster, ranks and artwork stay, while its treasury, loans, troop contracts and wars end with the old era and its features stay locked. You can leave at any time, even before the leader acts. Only the leader can reactivate it, once they have reached level 10 in the new era and pay 10,000,000 gold.

Account access and help

Read the message shown on the login page. Access may be restricted while login is disabled; a registered account does not guarantee that play is currently available. Check the public news for announcements. If the message does not explain your problem, ask for help without sharing your password or sign-in codes.

Use the password-reset page and follow its email instructions. Check your spam folder if the message does not arrive. Never post a reset link, password, or two-factor code in a public channel. If recovery still fails, describe the problem to support without including those secrets.

Reset your password

In Settings, under Your data, you can download a copy of your data and ask for your account to be erased. Both ask for your password first. An erasure is confirmed by email, then waits 14 days so you can change your mind. The same options are open to every player, wherever you live.

Open your settings

Include the page you were using, the action you took, what you expected, and what happened instead. Add the approximate time and a screenshot if it helps, after removing private messages, email addresses, and other sensitive details. The community Discord and the repository issue tracker are the support channels listed by the project.
