Your First Kingdom

Your First Kingdom

The first days decide how quickly you grow. This guide covers what you start with, what to buy, how long you are protected and what to do before you log off.

What you start with

A new commander in a fresh era normally begins with 25,000 gold, 50 citizens and 50 attack turns. An era can be set up with different starting values, so check your overview on the first day.

Attack turns return on a clock: one every 30 minutes, or 48 a day, even while you are away. Your kingdom earns its gold on the same clock.

Spending your first gold

Citizens do nothing until you train them. Training turns a citizen into a unit and costs gold. A Worker costs 2,000 gold, a Soldier 1,500, a Guard 1,500 and a Spy 1,500. Your starting gold buys at most 12 Workers, or 16 Soldiers.

Workers are the only unit that earns gold. On the starting Farm each Worker brings in 50 gold every turn, so a Worker repays its price in about 40 turns, roughly 20 hours. Your Manor adds 1,000 gold per turn whatever you do.

  • Workers grow your income and add little to your army.

  • Soldiers raise your attack. Guards raise your defense. Spies scout other kingdoms.

  • Stronger units need a stronger fortification. A Knight, for example, costs 10,000 gold and needs fortification level 4.

Your first days are protected

New kingdoms are shielded from the worst of a raid. Protection ends at the first of three limits: 14 days after you join the era, level 10 (76,000 experience), or your population growing past a threshold that depends on the era. While you are protected, one battle can cost you at most 1.5% of your population, with a minimum of one unit.

Attacking does not end your protection, but use the time to build income and a defense before you start raiding.

Citizens are your slowest resource

Housing gives you 1 citizen a day to begin with. Recruiting adds one citizen each time, up to 250 a day. The allowance resets every day, so use it.

The first Housing upgrade raises your daily citizens to 20. It costs 500,000 gold and needs fortification level 2.

Keep your gold in the Bank

Gold in your hand can be plundered. Gold in the Bank is safe from raiders. You may deposit up to 80% of the gold you are holding, and the starting Farm allows 3 deposits a day. Spend what you need, then bank the rest before you log off.

Your first-day checklist

  1. Train Workers with most of your starting gold, then add a few Guards.

  2. Recruit up to your daily allowance of 250.

  3. Bank any gold you do not need to spend.

  4. Read the combat guide before you spend attack turns. You can only attack kingdoms within 5 levels of your own.

Figures on this page come from the game's rules and server settings. The server may change them between eras, and the page updates when it does.
